Opioid consumption and overdose have reached record levels in Canada – over 43000 deaths from 2016 to 2023. As this problem is expected to grow, Ontario’s Ministry of Health invested in a publicly funded naloxone program in 2016. Naloxone nasal spray is a drug that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose. With Mark’s guidance, his company, Respect Rx Pharmacy, trained over 250,000 people on how to use a naloxone kit.

Mark talks about local drug use trends, the stigma of this epidemic and how a bystander can properly recognize behaviours that place someone at high risk of a drug overdose.
