Are you curious why it is that we have understood the impact we are having on our planet for at least half a century and yet have not only made no progress, but in fact increased our use of fossil fuels every single year? I attribute this entirely to a famous quote from Albert Einstein who famously said that “we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” What we really require in order to stop imperiling our planet is a different story about who we are and our place in the world. What we need is to stop thinking we are in charge of nature and that we can save it with more economic growth and technology. What we need instead is to remember that we are part nature and subject to the same laws of physics that governs every other species on the planet.
